Dependency
Child Abuse Crimes
It can be terrifying to learn that a Dependency and Neglect petition has been filed against you. This means Department for Children, Youth, and their Families (DCYF) believes that a child is not being properly cared for at home, and either want to supervise your children in your home or remove your children from your home. Parents charged with dependency, abuse, or neglect are entitled to be represented by counsel to help ensure that your children are not take away from you and placed in foster care, or if they have already been taken, to get them back home to you.
What can I expect?
The court may assign a Guardian-Ad Litem or “GAL” to look out for the best interests of your children. You will still need your own attorney to represent your interest, to make sure your family stays together, and your children are protected.
It’s best to hold off talking to the GAL or human services workers until you have Attorney Roderman working for you. I can help explain the situation, offer legal strategies, and speak on your behalf with the court and human services. I will do everything possible to protect your family.
Dependency and Neglect Petitions are sometimes brought together with criminal charges. This can be even more complex and can move quickly. Luckily, Attorney Roderman also handles criminal cases and he can represent you in both cases with a well-coordinated defense.
